Employee and Co-Worker Appreciation Day

We had three participants in our first Employee and Co-Worker Appreciation Day. Carol Thomas brought her boss and bank manager Paul Kolarik. She told us of all of the activities he is involved with and a list of his accomplishments. She also credits Paul on the inspiration and the freedom that he allows her to participate and contribute to organizations such as Rotary and Little Skippers.

Tony Schwall brought one of his partners in crime, Jim Farmer. Tony and Jim are a part of small group of people that help West Sacramento keep dry. During this time of year, the Reclamation District works around the clock to keep the water moving and out of our homes.

Andy Johas brought his son James. James helps his dad in the day to day operations of his company. Comments were made by Georgia, saying that James is Andy's favorite, but Andy shrugged it off and let them know that both of them will be receiving the same amount of gifts from the Dollar Store.

Bell Ringers and Other Notable Fines

On our December 13th meeting we had some BELL RINGERS among us. Larry Bradford pitched in $100 for our Santa efforts (12/6 meeting) and in the same breath volunteered Rick Hart and Mike Brady for $100 each, because they were not at the meeting. Andy Johas also was a BELL RINGER with a $100 donation.

A special $100 BELL RINGER goes out to Mike Palmer. He and his daughter went to Las Vegas for his daughter to compete in a Martial Arts Tournament. She took 1st place in sparring and a 2nd in forms. He was happy to pay the fine as long as half of it went to our Santa Project.

Jeremy Olson was also fined $15 for missed meetings and having his daughter on put on Mike McGowan's (His father-in-law) Christmas card.

January Birthdays and Anniversaries

From the information that I have, there are no January birthdays or anniversaries. I may need some updating. If you read this, and you are missing your special day, please call me or email me so we can acknowledge you (Oh yeah... and fine you accordingly).

A Visit From The North Pole Associates

Elf Dumb was our guest on December 20th. I will write more about this coming up, but the pics had to go up.

Our Very First Santa Project

We had over a $1,000 budget to work with. We had donations from "the Nugget Family" and David Stroud of ASB Properties. With all of this positive energy we made three deserving families feel the spirit of Rotary and Christmas. Tony Schwall and Georgia Johas started off by reading many letters from families at the post office. These letters indicated what they wanted for Christmas. A veteran of reading these letters, Tony knew what to look for.

Walking into Georgia's house (which is for sale by the way, so if you know anybody..) there was a wall of gifts that surrounded her whole front room. It was an amazing site. We, Dawn, Tony, Georgia, Mike Tzikas and his son George (correct me if I am wrong Mike), and myself, proceeded to load up the cars and deliver.

The families all had their own stories, but all definitely in need and deserving. For those of you who participated, please tell us your experience.

Angela Terricone from Bloodsource was in to speak to us on December 6, 2005. She was responsible for setting up the mobile unit for Ruby Tuesdays on December 20th. Bloodsource serves over 40 local hospitals. Their average is 700 pints per day. They currently have 16 local centers and conduct over 150 mobile blood drives per year.

Angela mentioned that they have a supply that will help support others around the country in case of need. American Blood Centers is a network that "cross provides" to those in need; such as natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina. For more information, please call (866)82BLOOD.
